Chemical Distribution Company Website Design – DMC Distribution of Minerals and Chemicals Case study

Posted by

DMC is a chemical and mineral distribution company for various industries, including detergent, soaps, foundry, rubber, welding, adhesives, paints, and more. Located in Mumbai, India, the company has a wide presence worldwide with distribution centers spread across Asia, Africa, and Europe.

The Website – Requirements and Limitations

DMC, even with the best products, found it hard to establish a presence in the global market. Their local presence was not sufficient for business growth. With the potential to deliver worldwide, the lack of online presence restricted the company from providing services internationally. The team at DMC understood that an online presence could solve some of their problems and generate leads. A website was urgently required to showcase their products and services. They created a list of requirements for the website before consulting Megh Technologies. Below are the requirements:

  1. Responsive Website: The website had to be fast-loading and available on all devices. It had to load quickly on slower mobile networks and be accessible without delay.
  2. Simple, Clean Design: The website had to be clean, easy to navigate, and user-friendly. The images should reflect the company’s high-quality standards. The branded colors were to be used with no changes to the existing logo.
  3. Readable Content: The website should be easily readable with clean, clear fonts. Images should be limited but provided where required. The core focus should be on the products rather than the company itself.
  4. Scalable Website: The website should be scalable. If, in the future, there is a need to add new pages or content, it should be easily done. Though the need would be minimal, the provision should be possible.
  5. Content Management System: A content management system was not required at the moment, but integration should be considered for the future if needed.
  6. Technical Optimization: The website should be technically optimized with sitemaps, schema, page speed tests, etc.

Based on the requirements provided by DMC, Megh Technologies recommended a static website or a WordPress website and provided DMC with the pros and cons of each platform. With minimal need to change the content over the next few years, DMC found the static website design a more suitable option for their company.

The Process

Megh Technologies started with a website structure. The website had five pages that were of importance: About Us, Products, Markets, Contact Us, and the Home page. These were the only content pages to be added to the website. A download option for the brochure was to be provided on the menu. While all the pages were simple, the Products page required a list of products with detailed descriptions for each product. There were 21 products with detailed descriptions, images, and multiple subsections for each product. The total number of pages for the Products section alone came to around 60 pages.

A clear site structure was created, and a wireframe was designed with content and image placeholders. The wireframe was created in Figma for approval from the stakeholders. Once approved, a prototype was created for one product section and all the other pages. The prototype was presented for changes and approval by DMC.

Coding the Website, UI/UX Design, and Deployment

Once the prototype was completed, the UI was transferred to HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. The website was completely coded from scratch to reflect the prototype created. Limited JavaScript was used. The Bootstrap framework was used to ensure that the website was responsive and mobile-friendly. All images were optimized for fast loading.

The Results

The DMC website was deployed on an Azure server hosted by Megh Technologies. The website was appreciated by the stakeholders. Today, the DMC website records at least 1,000 visitors a day with over a 3% lead conversion rate. Being a B2B business, most of the leads are repeat customers with high-volume purchases. The possibility of growth in the mineral and chemical industry is definitely high with a website and online presence.
